*Latest news- Ivory Silk wins on her debut for the yard at Great Leighs on Thursday night. The filly won by a length under Chris Catlin after not having a clear run and in doing so broke the track record. Full report in next week's news*
Remember Ramon won in great style at Wolverhampton on Monday in what was an excellent training feat by Jeremy and the team. The horse took the one mile four in good style (see photo). Neil Callan gave him a great ride, setting the pace and relaxing him out in front before quickening up two furlongs out and effortlessly striding home to win by 2 lengths. Some horses are easier than others to train and Ramon is definitely at the very tricky end of the scale. He came to us with a reputation for being very hard to hold, dead-mouthed and almost impossible to settle and it took months of hard work and dedication to produce yesterday
Remember Ramon stormed home at Wolverhampton yesterday winning impressively over 1 1/2 miles. He has a possible target next week for a quick follow up and we think there is more to come from this talented five year old. It is not often that I get up at 3.45, in fact I actually don't. However this morning was the Melbourne Cup, "the race that stops a nation", and it managed to start this one. As some of you may recall, I have been singing the praises of Septimus all year and even without any rain I still felt he'd put in a big run. We have been developing an excellent relationship with Terry Henderson in recent months - he recently took a share in an Encosta de Lago yearling we bought in Ireland - and he had a couple of runners including Bauer (pictured above) in the big race, so we had plenty of interest. In summary, Septimus and his stable mates had their own race in which they all lost and Bauer won while actually coming second. I have watched the race 4 times and each time Bauer gets home in front and yet loses the photo. Tough on Terry but he put it right by winning the very next race! I have yet to make it out to the cup but hopefully we'll have a runner or two there in the years ahead.
