Stable favourite Remember Ramon won for us in impressive fashion in the 14f handicap at Wolverhampton yesterday evening, profiting from a well-judged front-running ride from Neil Callan. The six-year-old gelding settled well in the lead and quickened away from the field before the straight. The official winning margin was 3
On Wednesday, we will unleash Catalan Bay onto the racecourse for the second time since we brought her over from Australia and she looks to have strong prospects in the 7f handicap at Wolverhampton. We feel the mare (pictured) has improved from her last run and while we have not had a clear path with her since then, what with the delay caused by the snow, we will be disappointed if she fails to go close.
Moving onto Thursday, we will return to Wolverhampton where we look to have two solid chances with Remember Ramon in the 14f handicap and Leonaldo in the extended 1m handicap. Remember Ramon will be returning to the scene of his win for us earlier in the season
Street Power became our latest winner when he showed an impressive turn of foot to put away the opposition in the 6F handicap at Lingfield today (Wednesday). The son of Street Cry has now won 3 out of his last 4 starts and took today's race easily under a confident ride from Steve Drowne, who went on to ride a treble. The horse (pictured below winning last month) has previously run very greenly but he broke well on this occasion and the drop back in trip evidently suited him as he was able to settle and then use his speed to cut through the field. We would expect the horse to progress further and look forward to seeing what he can do in the future. It is particularly nice to see him doing well for his breeder, John Hawkins, who brought the horse over from the USA and has been a keen supporter of the yard.
Due to the widespread snow, the last week has been an incredibly challenging one for the whole racing industry and, like many yards, we have been somewhat restricted in what we could do with our horses. From Tuesday 3rd February until last Tuesday, our gallops were unusable and the yard was blanketed in snow (see photo). It took a titanic effort from our staff to clear the yard and walker of snow before gritting them to make it safe for the horses to leave their boxes every morning. In particular, the high-speed treadmill really earned its keep, proving to be worth its weight in helping us to keep the horses ticking over.
Street Power was our star performer in the week since our last update, making it two wins from as many starts when prevailing in the 7f handicap at Kempton on Wednesday evening. As he had done when winning over the same course and distance three weeks earlier, Street Power (pictured after his first victory) did almost everything wrong in the first half of the race, starting awkwardly before racing very freely in rear. However, he looked a different horse in the second half of the race, being eased to the outer by Greg Fairley and producing a potent turn of foot to mow down his opposition inside the final 1f and prevail by
