Last Saturday we staged our open day and it proved to be a resounding success. Despite the murky weather forecast giving us all nightmares in the week, the clouds mercifully emptied their contents between 5am and 6am on Saturday morning and glorious sunshine prevailed thereafter. The team here had risen as early as 5am to help get the bulk of the work done before working even harder to get the yard looking in tip-top shape. From the moment the first public car pulled into the car park, it was only a matter of minutes before the lawn in front of our office was heaving with people young and old keen to see and hear what we had to offer.
With our Open Day only a matter of days away (Saturday 25.04.09), the final preparations are being carried out to prepare the yard for an influx of visitors. The day starts at 10am and there will be the chance to watch the horses work, followed by a tour of the facilities and a parade of horses. The new gallop, high speed treadmill, observation tower and new custom-built walkers will all be available for inspection and there are a number of interesting horses due to feature in the parade including some Australian imports and nicely-bred 2yos, as well as multiple winners. For more information on the day please contact Kelly Baker on 01985 841166.
As the preparations for our Open Day on April 25th continue to gather pace, several of our horses who have been prepared with turf campaigns in mind are having the final touches put on their training preparations, with a handful of them ready to be unleashed in the coming days. However, before then we will be represented by Count Trevisio (pictured), who has been declared to run at Wolverhampton on Thursday evening. The ex-Godolphin inmate has proved tricky to get to grips with, but we feel this race should pan out ideally for him and with Steve Drowne in the saddle, it would not surprise us if he were to run well.
Remember Ramon (pictured with amateur jockey David Turner) was our sole representative at Kempton on Wednesday evening and while he found three rivals too good for him, he acquitted himself well in the circumstances. On the 2 occasions he has won for us he enjoyed an easy lead and unfortunately he wasn
Just minutes after the conclusion of the Aintree Grand National, we had our only runner of last weekend when Vamos lined up for the 6f maiden at Lingfield. We felt the three-year-old son of Royal Applause would acquit himself well whilst still being in need of the experience and we were delighted with his performance, finishing 3
Yanza (pictured) became our first winner of the month when she prevailed in the 5F maiden at Kempton on Thursday. It was the speedy filly's seasonal reappearance and she showed an admirably game attitude under Chris Catlin to break her maiden tag despite still showing signs of her inexperience, jumping a shadow in the early stages and not handling the right-handed turn as well as she might have. She will have her first run in handicap company in the next few weeks and we feel she has the ability to be competitive. The daughter of Bahamian Bounty can be a quirky individual and special recognition should go to work rider Sam Clarke who rides her out every day.
Yanza (pitured left) makes her seasonal reappearance today in the 5f maiden at Kempton at 5.25 and we expect a big run from her. She was unlucky not to win as a two-year-old, finishing in the frame twice in maidens despite not being suited by the softish ground. She is in good form at home and with her having worked well at Kempton in the past, it would be no surprise to us if she was to go well in what looks likely to be a below-average contest before going on to show progression in handicaps.
