Flying Silks Goes To Beverley

29th May 2010

Image

Today we send Flying Silks (pictured left) up to Beverley. The son of Barathea has been ready to go for several weeks now but the rain that we have been waiting for has remained elusive and so we will let him take his chance on good to firm ground this afternoon. The horse is in great form and if the ground doesn't trouble him he should go well for owners Trevor and Carol Coffen.

Friday 28th May- RATS Invade Newmarket

Rowley and the Sectionals (the RATS) to their friends, are heading to Newmarket this afternoon to cheer on One Way Or Another in the valuable seven furlong handicap. The Carnegie gelding is bidding to prove he deserves a chance at Royal Ascot and we are hoping for a big run from him, although the going may be a little firmer than he would ideally like.

Thursday 24th May- Two Runners At Wolverhampton

We have two runners at Wolverhampton today. Lord Cornwall became our first two-year-old runner of the year earlier this afternoon, when he ran in the five furlong maiden. The Encosta De Lago colt shaped with more promise than the result suggests. Having dwelt in the stalls, he was on the back foot from the outset, having to contend with the kickback as he tried to get back into the race. Those exertions told in the closing stages and Steve Drowne let him come home in his own time. He is sure to improve from the experience and will more than likely have his next start on the turf.

At 5.30 our attentions will be focused on Golden Ratio when she lines up in the handicap over an extended mile. We feel the Noverre filly should handle the step up in trip and hope for a good showing from her.

Tuesday 25th May- Redemption Day For Anne Of Kiev

Yesterday was redemption day at Windsor, with Luke Morris and the seemingly now famous Anne Of Kiev reuniting to claim the six furlong handicap in emphatic style. Luke had come in for much criticism for his ride on the mare at the course on her penultimate start and, with Jamie Spencer suffering equally poor luck on the mare on her latest start at Doncaster, the pressure was on Luke to deliver the goods last night. He proved more than up to the task and produced the mare with a winning run up the inside, much to the delight of new owner Philip Bamford. The win was the cause of much celebration and Anne Of Kiev, who is a lovely laid-back character at the track, looks capable of progressing further.

Another cause for celebration last night was the run of Edition, who finished second on his handicap debut, despite not getting the clearest of runs. The Bahamian Bounty colt showed that he is clearly progressive and will certainly be a fun horse to get involved with. He is currently for sale at £15,000. For more information contact Kelly Baker.

Saturday 22nd May- Runners At Haydock And York

Our two main runners of the day come on the high-profile card at York and are both owned by Tony Bloom, with Able Master lining up in a red-hot conditions race over 7f and Shahwardi having his first start for us in a similarly competitive 14f listed race. Able Master has taken time to adjust to his new routine since joining us, but he has run better than the result suggests in both his starts for us and with this longer trip likely to suit, it would be no surprise to us if he shows up well. Shahwardi has settled in well since joining us last month, but as is always the case, it will take him time to adjust to his new training regime. This race is a nice starting point for him and while the longer trip and firmer going are unknowns for him, we feel that neither will be a problem. It is a hot race for the grade and whatever he does, he will build on it.

Less than an hour later over at Haydock, Mrs Penny will line up in the 6f handicap. An Australian-import, she has long promised to be at her best on turf and following a very pleasing return to action at Ripon last time, we would be hopeful of a forward showing from her under Neil Callan.

Friday 21st May- El Diego Runs At Haydock

Jesse James crosses the border and heads to Chepstow today, where he will line up in the handicap over a mile due off at 5.10. Steve Drowne takes the ride on the King's Best gelding who runs in the colours of Tony Bloom. We feel he should appreciate the good to firm ground, as he has previously gone well on it, and we are hoping for a good run from him.

Thursday 20th May- El Diego Runs At Haydock

Today we head north to Haydock with El Diego on board. He is running in the handicap over 12 furlongs and we are hoping that he copes with the good to firm ground. We would ideally prefer slightly softer going but the rain doesn't appear to be coming and so he will take his chance.

Wednesday 19th May- Lingfield Run For Catalan Bay

Today we send the unpredictable Catalan Bay to Lingfield where she will be given a chance to redeem her previous poor runs. The daughter of Rock Of Gibraltar lines up in the ten furlong handicap due off at 3.35 to see if stepping up in trip will encourage her to produce the effort we know she is capable of. We are hopeful rather than confident of a good run from her.

Tuesday 18th May- Thaliwarru Bids For His Hat-trick

Today we head to Nottingham with Tony Bloom's Thaliwarru. The Barathea gelding is due to line up in the six furlong handicap at 2pm. It will be the first time that the horse has tackled faster ground but if he handles it he should go close.

Yesterday Winifred Jo ran at Wolverhampton and looked the winner turning for home. Franny Norton felt that the race was his for the taking before the filly weakened in the closing stages. She will be dropped back in trip next time.

Friday 14th May- Anne Of Kiev Heads North

Anne Of Kiev aims to seek retribution for her unlucky run at Windsor last time out, when she heads to Doncaster tomorrow. The Oasis Dream mare was denied a clear run at Windsor but hopefully things will pan out for her in tomorrow's six furlong handicap, due off at 8.10. Jamie Spencer takes the ride and the mare heads there in good form. She is still available to buy for just £20,000, which is a fantastic price for a well-bred mare that has only been out of the money in three races and looks sure to win again. Anyone interested in purchasing her before tomorrow's race should contact Kelly Baker.

Monday 10th May- Medicean Man Wins At Ascot

Medicean Man (pictured left) ran out the impressive winner of the six furlong handicap at Ascot on Saturday. The son of Medicean put in an eye-catching performance under a confident ride from Jimmy Quinn, who sat quietly throughout the race before asking the horse to quicken away from the field in the closing stages. Medicean Man took the race easily by a length and a half, despite wandering around in front. The success was celebrated by Kate Dobb and her friends who were there to cheer the horse, owned by Kate and her father Stuart, across the line.

Medicean Man is a vey laid-back character and took the race in his stride. He has come home as usual looking like he hasn't had a run and we will send him out again in the next couple of weeks. He's undoubtedly a smart prospect and the Wokingham Stakes would be a possible target for him if all goes to plan.

Friday 7th May- Ascot Bound

The excitement is building ahead of tomorrow's busy day at Ascot. One Way Or Another (pictured, left) is set to line up for Rowley and the Sectionals (the RATS to their friends) in The Victoria Cup, due off at 3.25. Street Power has also been declared to take his chance in the £85,000 contest and will be supported on the day by one of his owners, Godfrey Buckland along with his vocal fan club. We go into the six furlong handicap later in the day with two runners, New Leyf running for James Burdett (who will be represented by his brother Ed on the day) and Medicean Man, for owner Kate Dobb. We have got a box at the course and are looking forward to an exciting afternoon.

Thursday 6th May- Jesse James Runs At Ffos Las

Just the one runner today and it comes at Ffos Las in Wales in the shape of the Tony Bloom-owned Jesse James. The son of King's Best improved from his first start for the yard when finishing fifth at Pontefract last time and this track promises to suit him better. With Steve Drowne again in the saddle, we are hopeful he will give a good account of himself.

Tuesday 4th May- A Win For Thaliwarru

We had an extremely busy day's racing yesterday with runners in all directions. Thaliwarru was last up at Chepstow in the 5.05 6f handicap and managed to make it a winning day for us under jockey Seb Sanders. Simla Sunset ran a good race under Eddie Ahern at Warwick to finish 4th in the 7f handicap. El Diego had his first outing of the season at Windsor in the 1m3 1/2f handicap. He was slowly into stride but soon in touch, just weakening over the final 2f. He will improve from this run and we look forward to his next outing.

Simla ran a good race under Eddie Ahern to finish 4th in the 7f handicap. At one point she looked a possible winner but couldn't quite find enough in the final furlong. El Diego had his first outing of the season at Windsor in the 1m3 1/2f handicap. He was slowly into stride but soon in touch, just weakening over the final 2f. He will improve from this run and we look forward to his next outing. Our other 2 runners were British Sea Power and Edition at Kempton. Edition ran a good race under Liam Keniry to finish 5th in the 1m maiden (div1), staying on well in the final furlong. It's only his 3rd outing and we look forward to exciting times ahead with him.

Thursday 26th April- Anne Of Kiev Runs Tonight

Anne of Kiev (pictured left) runs tonight at Windsor in the 6.40 handicap over 6 furlongs. She ran extremely well for us last time out at Wolverhampton, finishing a close 2nd to Mo Mhuirnin. This will be Anne Of Kiev's 3rd outing on the turf and so it will be interesting to see how she handles the ground. With her both looking and feeling very well we are hopeful for a big run.
