Denton Demolishes Rivals at Haydock..

31st July 2010

Image

Denton won in emphatic style at Haydock last night, proving he is better than ever. The lightly-raced son of Montjeu was given a lovely ride by Simon Pearce and we look forward to the rest of the season with him. He is currently for sale for £25,000 to stay in the yard. For more information, email Kelly@horsesfirstracing.com.

This evening we will be represented by the James Burdett-owned New Leyf at Newmarket (5:40pm). The son of Kheleyf (pictured) progressed notably on the all-weather earlier in the year and while his most recent runs look disappointing on paper, we since diagnosed and treated some issues with him that were holding him back. He seems in good form at home and while he can be expected to come on from the run, he looks well handicapped on the turf and it wouldn't be a big surprise if he were to run well.

Friday 30th July- Two Runners At Haydock

We head north again today with Denton and Law Of Attraction set to run at Haydock. Denton is first off at 8.20 and looks to have an excellent chance in the handicap over one mile two. The son of Montjeu will make a fantastic dual purpose horse down the line. Law Of Attraction follows Denton at 8.55, running over an extended mile. He looks to have a tougher task on his hands and we'd ideally like to run him over a shorter trip, however there are limited options for him. The horse looks capable of picking up a couple of races and we are hoping for a good showing from him.

Monday 26th July- Flying Silks Bids For A Double

Flying Silks will be bidding to follow up from his win last time out, when he lines up at Nottingham on Thursday. The Barathea gelding has gone up 9lb in his last two runs but we are hoping that won't be enough to prevent him running another good race for Trevor and Carol Coffen. Also heading to Nottingham is Hedonist, who represents OTI Racing. The Encosta De Lago gelding has proved to be frustrating to train, in that he often shows glimpses of ability but is very inconsistent. We hope that he will put his best foot forward in the maiden over a mile. Steve Drowne rides both horses.

Monday 19th July- Flying Silks Wins For The Coffens

Flying Silks became our latest winner, when he picked up the handicap over a mile at Pontefract on Friday night. The Barathea gelding made it his second win at the course for owners Trevor and Carol Coffen under a good ride from Jamie Spencer. The following day Sutton Veny put in a typical gutsy performance to finish fourth at Newmarket in a handy looking 0-95 sprint. The filly was beaten a neck, a neck and a nose and provided yet more excitement for the Sutton Veny Syndicate.

Tuesday 15th July- North, East & Over The Irish Sea

We head to Ireland tonight to run Shahwardi at Leopardstown in the listed race over 14 furlongs. The Lando colt is still being targeted at The Melbourne Cup and we are hoping he can follow on from the career-best effort he produced at Newmarket last time out, when he placed third in a listed race, tying with Man Of Iron. He carries a 3lb penalty for an earlier listed win in France but we are hoping for a big run form him under Steve Drowne. The race is due off at 9.05.

Tomorrow we head up north with two runners. Sulis Minerva runs at Haydock for Richard Page. The filly lines up in the five furlong handicap under Jamie Spencer and we are hoping for a good run from her. The same can be said for Trevor & Carol Coffen's Flying Silks, who was desperately unlucky in a photo finish on his last run. He contests the one mile handicap at Pontefract, also under Jamie Spencer.

Saturday is firmly marked in the Sutton Veny Syndicate's diaries, as their lovely filly, Sutton Veny lines up at Newmarket. She will be partnered by Adam Kirby, who notched up a hat-trick on her before she had a short break. There will be plenty of supporters at the July course shouting for them to return to winning ways, following her promising third last time out at Lingfield.

Monday 12th July- Three Head To Wolverhampton

Tonight we head to Wolverhampton with three horses. None of them want fast ground and so the all-weather is providing us with a safe option for them while we wait for the turf to soften up a bit. Palindromic is first to run and Jamie Spencer takes the ride on him. The Chineur colt ran well on his debut for owner Steve Herbert and then found the ground too firm at Haydock on his next start. Although he has got a bad draw today, we hope he will run well and come on again for the experience.

After Palindromic we have a bit of a wait until the 8.50 when both Street Power and One Way Or Another line up in the seven furlong handicap. Although we don't like running horses against each other, the race is the best option for both of these nice horses and so we will see what they do.

Wednesday 7th July- Denton Runs Tonight

Today Denton heads to Kempton to contest the 11 furlong handicap at 8.10. The Montjeu gelding will have come on from his Haydock run last time out, although we are still waiting for him to show that the breathing operation he underwent earlier in the year has been successful. Simon Pearce will take the ride and he knows the horse well, having won on him at Nottingham (see photo left).

Saturday 3rd July- Rahya Cass Makes Yard Debut

Today the JSC Kasandros Grupe's Rahya Cass makes her debut for the yard at Haydock. The Rahy filly (pictured left, working at home with Sutton Veny) has good form in Ireland and is off an official mark of 91. This will be her first race for the yard and her first start since October, so she is entitled to need the run, however she is a nice filly and we like her. Steve Drowne takes the ride and the race is due off at 4pm.

Tuesday 29th June- Royal Riviera Runs At Kempton

We are excited about running Royal Riviera again tomorrow, when he lines up at Kempton in the maiden over one mile four. Tony Bloom's gelding made an encouraging debut on the flat at Chepstow recently and he will no doubt come on for that run. The Kempton race looks to be competitive but we are confident of a good effort from the son of Nayef.

Saturday 26th June- Shahwardi And Mrs Penny Run Today

Today we Send Sharwardi to Newmarket to run in the listed race at 2.45. The Lando colt does tend to get worked up before his races and the hot weather isn't going to do him any favours but he will take his chance in the five runner field and we hope he will go well under Steve Drowne. Mrs Penny heads north to Doncaster tonight. The mare is due a bit of luck and we hope for a good showing from her under Luke Morris.
