Summer Breaks & Boost for Street Power

20th May 2008

It's been a fairly quiet week here at Horses First Racing. The ground in the UK has been rather firm due to the unseasonably dry Spring weather and so we have decided to give our jumpers an early Summer break. Some of the horses are already out in their paddocks and having a fantastic time relaxing with each other. Pictured below is Derry City (centre) with a few pals in the paddock this morning. Our string of flat horses are looking great and we are continuing to tick them over.

Jeremy took the decision last week to take his family on a week's break to Cyprus for what he claims to be his first holiday in years (since his honeymoon in fact). Darcy, six, Larnie, four and Harrison, two were all extremely excited to be going on a 'proper' holiday with their mum and dad. Latest update is they arrived safe, weather is great, bags nowhere to be seen.

The building work continues here at the farm with the new 20 horse barn coming on very nicely. As we said last week the foundations are in and the main structure of the barn is being worked on. It shouldn't be too long now before we can accommodate 70 horses on the farm. The rest of the farm is having a really good Spring clean and the place is looking like new. One of the jobs we have been doing is giving the walls a new lick of paint – see picture below. With the grass exploding all around us it's a never ending job to keep the place looking tidy.

Meanwhile one of the yards favourites, 3yo colt Street Power (pictured below) had a nice boost over the weekend. While he was happily resting on Sunday one of his relatives was busy winning a Group 1 in Italy! Leading German trained colt Saddex won the Premio Presidente della Repubblica over 1m2f at Capannelle with prize money of £132,353.00. This now puts his form at 7 wins and 4 places from only 15 starts with total prize money of £428,822.00. He's now won 2 Group 1's, 2 Group 2's and a life of a stallion beckons for him. Whether "the Power", as he is known in the yard, can get anywhere near that remains to be seen. Our fellow is going through another amazing growth spurt - he's put on 35 kilo's just this spring - and we are letting him come to himself before he races this year. He certainly keeps me dreaming ...
