Adding up the air miles

03rd June 2008

Jeremy is becoming a bit of a jetsetter at the moment, which for someone who isn't overly keen on flying isn't as glamorous as it sounds! Fresh off the plane from a short holiday in Cyprus he's spent a week here making sure everything is progressing as it should before heading off to Heathrow yesterday to catch a flight to Sweden. He is going to Scandinavia to meet the directors of the Vitafloor company. The Vitafloor is a full-sized stable floor which variably vibrates and tilts, working on the same principles as the well established Power-Plate for humans. Over a number of independently conducted clinical trials, it has shown to be highly effective at improving blood circulation and lymphatic drainage as well as reducing inflammation, speeding tendon injury recovery time and relaxing the horse through massage. Equally, it can be used to train/maintain muscles for horses unable to exercise due to injury. We have had a Vitafloor installed at the yard (pictured) and Jeremy is keen to meet its creators to see firsthand how it can benefit horses and therefore how best to incorporate it into our horses' training regimes. Jeremy is due back on Thursday and will then add more air miles to his collection in the coming weeks as he is due to spend a couple of weeks looking at horses in Australia.

The two staff members to introduce you to this week are Emma Lucas and Laura Coward. Emma (left), 17, joined us recently from Lackham College where she had completed a course in Racehorse Care. Laura, 16, joined us straight from school. Both girls love animals and are keen to develop their skills. We have got a good team of staff here now and as I mentioned last week, we're always keen to hear from talented people who would be interested in working for us. In particular at the moment we are looking to recruit two new work riders. Please see the Careers section for more information.

The horses are looking and going well at home. The photo below shows 3rd lot storming up the gallops this morning, led by Assistant Trainer 'Coops' on Seribase. The six year old gelding is strong at the best of times but he is feeling especially well as he nears race fitness and Coops was swinging off him, much to the amusement of the other riders. Just behind him is Count Trevisio who is also in flying form and will be back on the course soon. The same applies to the Resurrection Partners' Maidanni, third in line.

The picture below is not something you'd expect to see on a racing website. These amazing Zulu dancers were at Stonehenge this week as part of the Salisbury Art Festival. They were absolutely brilliant and obviously the setting was incredible. They danced and sang as the sun set and their shadows danced on the stones behind them, it really was beautiful. Amazingly a rainbow appeared just as the dancers finished and this was after the sun was down and without there being a cloud in the sky.
