I was up at 5.00 am on Monday morning with butterflies of anticipation as we had booked Salisbury racecourse to gallop 3 horses. The sun was already beaming and the world looked glorious - note to self - I must get up early more often. Working on a racecourse can be invaluable in a horse's training program and we are very grateful to Salisbury's clerk of the course, Jeremy Martin, for allowing us to use their superb facilities. We took one of our two year olds, Yanza (Bahamian Bounty x Locharia) to further her education before making her racing debut later this month and, although predictably very green, she went nicely under Kirsty Evans. Street Power, our three year old colt, ridden by Assistant Trainer Paul Cooper, went along to get a feel of turf having made his debut on the all weather last year. "The Power" (pictured leading) as I call him is due to run in a maiden at Salisbury on the 26th. He worked with the older and more experienced Hopeful Purchase, ridden by Ed Sibbick, who could run at Ascot on Friday 25th. Both horses looked superb and went well.
Returning to the yard this morning was our two year old Kyllachy filly. She has spent the past month or so at Guy Landau's pre-training facility just down the road and will now go into full training with us. The filly was bred by Wendy Price, who has her half-sister, Mexilhoeira, with us. Guy has reported her to be going well and we look forward to racing her later this year.
Our entries this week are scattered around and are both ground and numbers dependant. We were thinking about running Cheonmado at Kempton on Wednesday but the decision was made for us when the declarations tracking showed he would have been the last of 15 to be balloted out. Northern Endeavour is fit and ready to go for his preferred entry at Uttoxeter on Wednesday but with 76 in his race it is unlikely he will get a run. With 51 entered in his alternative at Southwell on Friday it would appear he may have to wait a bit longer for a race which is a shame as he schooled very well on Saturday, as did Silent Dream (pictured below under jockey Luke Kilgarriff). Dream has been off the track for a couple of years and it is vital that he doesn't run on firm ground so he holds entries around the country next week starting with Stratford on Sunday.
The one horse who is almost certain to run this week is Gaborone (pictured below) who heads back to Leicester for the seller over five furlongs. The filly is all set for the run and we feel the drop back in trip will suit her. There are horses in the race with much higher Racing Post Ratings than her and it won't be an easy task.
I am well aware of how lucky I and everyone here is to be involved with such amazing horses in such a beautiful location.
