Yanza makes her debut

05th August 2008

It will be good to see the first of our unraced two year olds make her racecourse debut this week. Yanza, a bay filly by Bahmian Bounty, heads to Bath on Thursday to run in the 6.25, which is just over five and a half furlongs. The ground is a bit of a concern as we wouldn't want too much of a cut in it for the filly's first outing, so we're hoping it can dry out a bit after all the recent rain. Yanza (pictured using the Seawalker after work) has had racecourse gallops at both Salisbury and Kempton but she is a quirky filly and it will be interesting to see how she handles the excitement of a race day. Also running this week is Cheonmado, John Hawkins' four year old. We'd like him to run over 7 furlongs at Lingfield on the Saturday however there is a chance he could be balloted out and we may have to run him over six there on the Friday.

Our jog cart is now up and running and this latest bit of kit from Australia is already proving its worth by allowing us to exercise horses who temporarily can't be ridden. If a horse gets a cut or a rub on its back or girth area, has a sore mouth or can't be ridden for whatever reason, we can now still give it a workout rather than having to drop it back to the walker while it heals. The horses accept the cart very well and they can work alone or in pairs. Monticelli, who is quite a hot horse to ride, has been using the cart for the last few days and went very nicely in it. He is pictured working yesterday.

Tuesdays are gallop mornings at the farm and it was encouraging to see so many of the horses looking and going well this morning. Eleanor Eloise, Street Power, Hopeful Purchase, Ravenna, Yankeedoodledandy and Vamos are just a few of the horses who should be racing in the next 2 or 3 weeks. There are a few horses that haven't been in work for quite as long that are starting to catch the eye as they progress. Kylla Queen, our two year old Kyllachy filly is maturing nicely and there are a lot of positive vibes surrounding New Leaf, our two year old Kheleyf colt (pictured below). If you would like to view the pedigrees of any of our two year olds, or indeed any of our horses, you can now do so on our website. Just go to our Horses in Training page and you can check our entries, results and horses' form and breeding.

Henrythenavigator's win at Glorious Goodwood last week (see picture) pushed our winnings on advised selections up to £3,000 from an initial £100 stake (with the stake safely returned). Of course you would need to have been brave enough to roll the whole lot on Henry and it did get a bit tight on the line. That said, the incomparable Johnny Murtagh commented afterwards that he was always safe and never had a worry. My heart could have done with knowing that! So what to do with our pot of winnings? I have a selection in mind that will be around 10-1 ante-post and I'm thinking we should have around £1,000 on him. There are a couple of final bits of info to be gathered before we take the plunge but I think we'll be ready to go in the next few weeks. I'll keep you posted and I'll also keep an eye open for any other recommended bets. I like Nadal a lot to win the US Open but we better wait to see how much the Olympics takes out of him.
