Last week we had several runners. Yvonne Evelyn ran well in her debut at Lingfield and will come on a lot for the experience. She has options over seven furlongs and a mile for her follow up run. Street Power (pictured below) took part in the hotly contested maiden (there was a staggering $15M+ worth of horses in the field) at Great Leighs on Thursday night and in doing so qualified for his handicap mark. His performance was picked by the Racing Post "Street Power caught the eye staying on up the home straight. He is a big sort and may still need time." He'll be back out soon, possibly stepping back to 7 furlongs due to the fact he over raced slightly early.
Yesterday we had two runners in the same race at Kempton which I found a little challenging for the first few furlongs in trying to track each of them. The task was made a little easier by Jamie Spencer who rode Hopeful Purchase for us. Jeremy said in the paddock "don't worry if you don't get on the lead and you can be happy to track something" the Racing Post picked up what actually happened "blasted off in lead at strong pace ..." he was about 3 clear as they turned for home. Unfortunately, yesterday he was running over a mile rather than his preferred 7 furlongs. He'll be back to 7 furlongs next time and it should see a better run. The other runner was Remember Ramon who had been off for over 18 months. He has been tough to train as he pulls like a train and is a real handful. Chris Catlin did a great job getting him to the start. He came out well and was soon pulling but then settled well at the rear of the field. His best distance will likely be a mile and half but we ran him back over shorter due to the long lay off and to help him settle. As they turned for home he could have been expected to have been outpaced at a shorter distance and I glanced back hoping he'd be alright. I was delighted to see his big loping stride start to kick in and see him start picking up horses and finishing well up the straight. Very much mission accomplished and he'll race at around 1 mile 2 next time out.
Running this week is Eleanor Eloise who goes to Wolverhampton on Friday. Owned by John Hawkins, she is still very lightly raced and we believe the best is yet to come from her. She runs at 18.20 in the six furlong Handicap and we expect her to run well.
