Yanza (pictured) became our first winner of the month when she prevailed in the 5F maiden at Kempton on Thursday. It was the speedy filly's seasonal reappearance and she showed an admirably game attitude under Chris Catlin to break her maiden tag despite still showing signs of her inexperience, jumping a shadow in the early stages and not handling the right-handed turn as well as she might have. She will have her first run in handicap company in the next few weeks and we feel she has the ability to be competitive. The daughter of Bahamian Bounty can be a quirky individual and special recognition should go to work rider Sam Clarke who rides her out every day.
Today Count Trevisio (pictured below relaxing in the paddock) runs in the extended 9f handicap at Wolverhampton and, with him having run well over the course and distance on his penultimate start, it would be no surprise to us if he were to bounce back to form having failed to stay the longer trip on his latest start.
Tomorrow, we have declared Vamos (pictured below) to run in the 6f maiden at Lingfield. He finished a very pleasing third on his last run at Lingfield 11 days ago and he has come out of that run in great heart. The step up to 6f looking sure to suit him and we expect him to benefit in terms of fitness from his last run. While the John Gosden-trained Anacreon looks to be the one to beat, we will be hopeful that we can make a race of it with him. Regardless of whether he can beat that higher rated rival or not, we expect him to continue to progress and prove competitive in handicaps in the months ahead.
