As the sun continues to beat down on us at Horses First, we are all looking forward to Yanza running in the 6f fillies handicap at Lingfield on Thursday. She got no run whatsoever on her last start at Nottingham and a much-improved effort is likely to be forthcoming in this contest. After that, we could well be represented by Acrosstheuniverse (pictured below) and/or One Way Or Another at Doncaster on Saturday. The former is a three-year-old by Forestry that Jeremy really likes and would be capable of running well in the 5f maiden. One Way Or Another is an Australian import that has been impressing in his work and could well show up prominently in the 7f handicap in the colours of Simon Rowlands.
We had three runners at Newbury last Saturday and while none of them could reach the frame, there was encouragement to take from the performances of our two runners in the 6f maiden, Medicean Man and New Leyf. Medicean Man (pictured using our Seawalker), who was making his debut, raced very greenly in the rear for much of the race, but got the message late in the day and was noted making good late headway, suggesting he will improve significantly from the experience. New Leyf on the other hand travelled notably well for much the contest until failing to let himself down on ground that was a touch too firm for him. He is undoubtedly better than that form suggests and, granted a more sympathetic surface, he is likely to leave that form well behind in his coming runs.
