With Kevin and Kelly on holidays this week I have been entrusted with the news. Unfortunately it has been a relatively quiet one on the racing front. Street Power (pictured below) was the leading contender at Lingfield last week however only managed to run behind a horse that I think is definitely capable of winning a good race. I think we learnt a thing or two about him and he is now having a short break before being aimed at a trip to Dubai.
The week ahead provides some hope with the Stuart and Kate Dobb owned Chief Exec, who is pictured below following his win in July with Clare Lindop. He is in great form and will be tackling the mile at Kempton on Wednesday night. He has had a few attempts at a mile and failed to see it out but we are hopeful that being ridden patiently by Luke Morris will bring about the desired result.
We have 2 runners on Thursday; Precious Citizen runs at Chepstow over 1m2f and Django Reinhardt runs at Kempton over 6f. Precious Citizen looks to atone for her slightly lackluster run at Bath on 22nd August, where she looked the winner before just failing to see out the trip. The step back should see her running well. The run by Django Reinhardt at Leicester last month was a mystery and his work at home suggests he is better than that. He is pictured below (right) working with Die Haard.
Others to keep an eye on this week are Ivory Silks who runs in the 2.50 at Sandown on Friday over 5f and Leonaldo who runs in the7.20 at Wolverhampton on Saturday over 7f. Leonaldo is pictured below right.
I am looking forward to making my first trip to the US next Wednesday to attend the yearling sales in Kentucky. I am travelling with Dermot Farrington our bloodstock agent and our aim is to find a couple of nice horses to bring back. The market is still somewhat depressed at the moment and it appears a very good time to buy. One of my missions will be to find a couple of fast 2yo types that we can get going early in the season next year, something we struggled with this year for a couple of reasons. My feeling is America is the place to find them. If anyone is interested in getting involved in this plan, or would like to perhaps join us on the trip, contact me and I can see what we can do.
