The Sutton Veny Syndicate had a weekend to remember this week as their filly, Sutton Veny, stormed to the second win of her short career, taking the Betfair Poker Handicap at Kempton on Sunday afternoon in eyecatching style from the well-backed Space Station. The three-year-old daughter of Acclamation was given a well-thought-out ride from Adam Kirby, who was able to dictate a steady pace from the front early on before kicking for home and leaving the others with too much to find. The official winning distance was a neck but, as the Racing Post acknowledged, Sutton Veny never looked like getting caught. The majority of the syndicate members were there to cheer their horse home and there was plenty of celebrating in the winners enclosure afterwards. Jeremy feels there is more to come from the filly and the syndicate look to have more exciting days ahead of them. Some of the syndicate members are pictured in the photo, below.
Our other runner at Kempton on Sunday was Bertie Buckle, owned by Stuart Dobb and Iain and Mary Hebbard. Iain and Mary are also in the Sutton Veny Syndicate and so had an action-packed day. Bertie Buckle (pictured below) is still learning what racing is all about and ran more encouragingly than the bare result suggests. We will step him up in trip next time out and think that he is probably a miler in the making.
There were plenty of sore heads at Kempton, even before Sutton Veny won. The night before was our owners Christmas party which was good fun and a great chance for everyone to meet up and celebrate the stable
