New Year, New Leyf

29th December 2009

With a quiet week ahead of us on the racing front, our attentions are firmly focused on Kempton next Sunday and the possibility of getting 2010 off to a winning start. We are likely to have two representatives on the card, New Leyf in the 6f handicap and either Dominium or Edition in the 6f maiden for three-year-olds.

Much of the attention will be on New Leyf (pictured below, at home yesterday), as with him producing such a promising effort after his break last time, we are hoping he will build sufficiently on that effort to regain the winning habit. While this is a higher grade than he contested on his last start, we think he will prove up to the challenge and should make a bold bid.

An hour earlier, both of our entries in the 6f maiden have not stepped foot on a racecourse before, so whichever one of them lines up on the day can be expected to need the experience. That said, they have both been working well and it will be worth keeping an eye on them for the future. Edition is pictured below, having a pick of grass after work.

While our racing schedule is fairly quiet, and with lots of our horses on a break or in light work, much of the attention is focussed on the youngsters at the yard. There are some very nice prospects for next year
