We made Lingfield Park our second home this week, having runners at both their Sunday and Monday meetings. On Sunday the smart looking Street Power made his debut and ran very well under Dean McKeown. The colt got bumped coming out of the gates and then raced very keenly in behind the pack. Dean brought him wide at the turn and he ran on strongly, gaining on the leaders all the way to the post and eventually finishing 7th. He was spotted by the At The Races team as one of the horses to follow from what as a competitive race (the winning trainer felt his will be Listed class next year). The jockey was very happy with the horse and was excited about when he was going to run again. This will not be until next spring as, now he has had a bit of an education, we will turn him away and wait for the flat season with him. He's a horse to keep you dreaming on long winters nights.
Also running well at Lingfield was Richard Page's gelding, Joshua (pictured below). He was running a strong race yesterday and looked sure to be in the frame when he was badly hampered and jockey Eddie Ahern had to take a pull, ending any chance the horse had. Sadly the horse's run was eye-catching enough to see him claimed, which is the chance you take when you run them in a seller. We wish him all the best.
Another runner who went well for us last week was Eleanor Eloise, having her 2nd ever run and impressing by finishing 5th of 13 at Wolverhampton. 'Ellie' was much better out of the gates this time and looked to be there with every chance before just dropping back in the final furlong. We may well step her back down in trip, sending her over 6 instead of 7 furlongs, on her next outing. She's going the right way and will win races next year. Maidanni was our final runner last week, having his first run for 3 years at Lingfield yesterday. The horse, running for the Resurrection Partners (pictured in the paddock with Jeremy), was very keen and ran very freely to the start. Once out of the gates he again took a keen hold and, running as he did, could have used a stronger gallop early on. He is a very big horse and didn't quite have the turn of foot to quicken with the rest of the field when they turned on the speed. He will step up in trip next time out and he's a horse with ability. The most important thing is that he seems to be fine after his comeback, with his legs appearing to have stood up to the test well.
The horses are looking very well at home with several catching the eye this morning as they worked. Pictured below is Jahash, ridden by Elissa Biasotto, who is in great form and preparing for a possible Boxing Day outing. Keeping him company that day could be Northern Seren and other horses due out soon are Micky Cole, Paradigm Shift, Seribase, The Empty Tin and Saucy Night, who holds an entry at Lingfield this Saturday.
When Harry Findlay was talking to Jeremy's daughter Darcy recently, he asked her if she was settling in OK and if she missed home. Darcy informed him that she was settling in but she missed her dog. Those of you who know Harry will not be in the least bit surprised to hear that a couple of days later Jeremy received a phone call informing him that one of Harry's lurcher puppies was on its way for him the following day. Thankfully Jeremy's terrific wife Kerrie, who would be the one picking up the poos and coping with a new puppy as well as 3 young children, went along with the plan and little Tilly (pictured below with Kerrie and son Harrison) is the latest addition to the Gask family.
The quote this week is from Eddie Ahern, sat aboard the 17 hands Maidanni:
“He's a bit small isn't he?”
