Happy New Year

02nd January 2008

I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and enjoyed your New Year's celebrations. All the very best for 2008 from everyone here at Horses First Racing. If you took my advice and invested all your January sales money on Denman in the Lexus you never had a worry at any point. He jumped superbly, was in cruise control throughout the race and we cheered him on for all our worth. The festive period was a fairly hectic one for us with over 20 horses in work and runners up and down the country. The lorry racked up some impressive mileage heading to Huntingdon, Wetherby and Lingfield on consecutive days while horse transporter and good friend Wally Irvine took another runner to Chepstow for us. Northern Seren, who ran in a bumper at Huntingdon on Boxing Day, and Micky Cole, running the day after over hurdles at Wetherby, were both having their first runs back after a lay-off (Micky had been off for the best part of 2 years). They both ran as if they needed it, coming home safely under our conditional jockey Luke Kilgarriff (pictured on Micky) and no doubt improving for the outings. The Empty Tin, winner of 4 Irish point to points, jumped well and showed surprising early speed before plugging on in a 3 mile Beginners Chase at Chepstow on the 28th.

Chief Exec was our Lingfield runner and ran an excellent 5th from a bad draw (14th of 14) in his first run for the yard. It was a step up in class from the race we claimed him from and we were pleased with his effort, as were the Racing Post: "Chief Exec was settled last from his unfavourable draw and had plenty to do two furlongs out. Swinging widest off the home bend, he stayed on well...." He'll be out later this month so keep your eye out for him and maybe keep back some of your Denman winnings for a small each way on him.

We are excitedly awaiting the arrival of a new horse due in this afternoon. Mutual Respect is coming to us from Champion trainer Paul Nicholls' yard and he is a horse with a lot of talent. He came 1st and 2nd in bumpers and ran 3rd in 2 of his 3 hurdle starts. On the other start he came in 4th behind the classy 130 rated winner, Hills of Aran. The horse ran last week and we will be looking to keep him going with a view to running him in a Maiden Hurdle at Chepstow on the 18th of January.

As I mentioned in the last news, we have plenty of syndicate opportunities available right now (including Chief Exec). One of the other exciting horses that you can become involved with without having to re-mortgage your house is Paradigm Shift (pictured below). This unraced 5 year old (as of yesterday!) gelding is showing plenty of ability at home and is a potentially nice National Hunt horse. He may even run on the flat at some point. For more details on him see our marketplace. Because this is a new syndicate that we have just set up (someone actually signed up this morning), you will be involved in choosing the colours and syndicate name. There are 4 shares still available for this syndicate. For more information please contact syndicate manager Kelly Baker at kelly@horsesfirstracing.com.

This week's quote is from the Racing Post about Chief Exec following his run. It may convince a few of you to check out the syndicate deal in our marketplace:

"his new connections can have fun with him in this mood"
