The gallops are finished

05th February 2008

Relief this week as the resurfacing work on our hill gallop (pictured) was finally completed and the first horses were able to use it on Saturday. Though being out of action for only a month it has felt like an eternity. We now have two first class tracks and I'm looking forward to being able to combine a lot of long steady canters on the flat with some hill and faster work in their exercise programs.

Chief Exec heads to Lingfield tomorrow (Wednesday) where he runs in the 1.30 Handicap over a mile. David Probert takes the ride and he knows the horse well, having partnered him in his last 3 races and also in his recent racecourse gallop at Lingfield. Next Monday, Northern Seren (pictured below left working with The Empty Tin) looks set to make her debut over hurdles. She is entered at Plumpton in a 2 mile Mares only Novice Hurdle. She is going nicely at home and it will be interesting to see how she takes to the jumping game having schooled well.

A new arrival to the yard is Yankeedoodledandy, a 7 year old bay gelding who already has six wins and ten placing to his name. He ran 2nd in the Juvenile Novices Hurdle at Cheltenham under AP Mccoy a couple of seasons back and also finished a respectable 8th out of 21 finishers in the 2005 Triumph hurdle. The horse (pictured below with Travelling Head Lad Tom Dewhurst) has since been off with an injury and has come to us this week to start work. A cracking filly by Bahamian Bounty out of Locharia has also entered work from the pre-trainer and looks in superb condition. She has taken to her work in great style and I look forward to her progress in the future.

There are shares available in some of the 2yo's and also some jumps horses. For further information see our marketplace and contact Kelly Baker in the office. On that note I will also be going to the February Sale at Tattersalls on Thursday and would be only too happy to discuss any horses.

Eamonn is back from his holiday in Jamaica later on this week and he will be taking over his weekly news column again next Tuesday. That will be good timing as I hope to be at the races that day with another runner. Check back next week for more details.
