Chief Exec stormed home at Wolverhampton last Friday in what had looked to be a competitive handicap, to win easily by two and a half lengths. It is over two years since the horse's last win and Jeremy's decision to run him in blinkers on only his 3rd start for us certainly played a large part in his success. The Racing Post commented: 'The first-time blinkers certainly brought about plenty of improvement from Chief Exec, who showed a smart turn of foot to settle this in a matter of strides. Now that connections have found the key to him, he should continue to pay his way'. The Chief (pictured below), as he is known in the yard, may well run again this Friday - the 7th over course and distance. If you would like to get involved with this horse he is available for syndication. For more information on him please see the marketplace.
Jeremy was a happy and relieved man: "It felt as though the Sydney Harbor Bridge had been removed from the shoulders as Chief Exec flew home on Friday. Having claimed him late last year it was always the intention to try the blinkers on him as he looked like a horse who would benefit from them. I really missed the feeling of horses finishing like that. The patience has well and truly been tested over the past couple of months with what seems like endless but necessary construction, however we can now look forward to more good performances with the full complement of gallops available". The win was picked up down under and you can read a copy of the article in Racing and Sports. When you read it article you get some idea as to how highly thought of Jeremy is back home.
With The Chief showing that the horses are coming into form (last 3 runs: 2nd, 5th, 1st), we are looking forward to potentially 5 runners on Thursday and Friday of this week. Our three runners on Thursday are Evelyn Smith's mare Northern Seren (pictured below schooling yesterday) and Mrs Findlay's Micky Cole both heading to Wincanton to take part in competitive-looking hurdle races and later that day John Hawkins' Eleanor Elouise heads to Wolverhampton. On Friday the great Saucy Night heads to Leicester for an Amateurs riders Chase with David Turner who rides out here most days getting the ride. Saucy is in terrific form at home and we really hope he can reproduce it on the race track. Later that day The Chief is back at Wolverhampton to try and get back to back wins. Exciting times!
Of course a lot of the whole of the world is eagerly awaiting the upcoming Cheltenham Festival with the centrepiece being this years Gold Cup and the clash between Kauto Star and Denman. It's been quite something for Jeremy to see: "Having been involved in racing for some 20 years now, I can honestly say I have never experienced the build up and excitement that the pending clash between Kauto Star and Denman has produced. I was lucky enough to see Makybe Diva win her third Melbourne Cup which was a day to remember but she was in a class of her own.The involvement of Harry Findlay and his mother Maggie as part owners of Denman, has obviously added something personal to my views and I can't help but be slightly biased in my support of Denman, though I honestly think it will come down to tactics and who gets it right on the day. The words of the great Lee Freedman after Makybe Diva (pictured) won her third Cup were not lost on me that day when he said "go and find the youngest child on the course today, they are the only ones that might see something like this again". We might just be able to say that at Cheltenham this year!"
While I'll also be cheering on Denman's every stride my absolute nap for this years Festival is Sizing Europe for the Champion Hurdle. He's 9/4 fav and I expect him to win easily.
With the sun shining and spring in the air it truly is great to be alive!
