A beautiful morning on the gallops made all that better by a nice winner at Newmarket the night before. REMEMBER RAMON ran out a solid winner at Newmarket under a very well judged ride by George Baker. RAMON is not the easiest of horses to ride and George definitely would have earned his money just getting to the post quietly.
The horse only arrived with minutes to spare after being held up in traffic on the M25. However after some excellent work by travelling Head Person Louisa and Holly his handler, RAMON was fit and well to race and subsequently put up a great fight when challenged.
RAMON does most of his faster work on the treadmill here at home. He hasn't got the best back so we keep as much weight off it as we can. He also can be quite aggressive at home in his work so it is a way of keeping him relaxed while putting in the necessary work. It is a great example of the benefit of this piece of kit.
This evening CHIEF EXEC and PRECIOUS CITIZEN head to Lingfield. Chief is in top form and although the race is on turf, like Street Power i am not certain his previous turf form is a great guide. He needs to be ridden quietly and i think he can be in the mix again.
PRECIOUS CITIZEN has drawn poorly on the outside but her work at home suggests she could run well also at juicy odds. She will need luck however from 14 and Luke Morris needs to be on his game.
CARDENIO runs at Salisbury and needs to find a bit to be in the finish. She has worked well at home and suspect her time will come handicapping though it wouldn't surprise to see her run well at the track and trip.
A good days racing today and it does disappoint me that i don't have the good old 'TAB RAdio' station to listen to in the car. In Australia these stations broadcast all the racing countrywide and kept us in touch with all that was going on including interviews and prices etc. Of course these stations are funded by the 'TOTE' and the sale of advertising space but it gave racing a much wider audience. If only we could come up with something here.
We bid farewell to Clare today as she makes her way back for the new season in Australia. It has been a pleasure having her and she has thoroughly enjoyed herself. She rode four winners for the stable and a couple of unlucky placing as well leaving the shores with a very respectable strike rate. Clare also gave me a very memorable moment with the win of One Way Or Another at Haydock with an ALL Australian success. We all wish Clare good luck in the future, especially for the spring carnival.
