  • we hope to see some improvement with him. FINE FINALE is our final runner of the day
  • we have an early start at Lingfield this morning with YOU GOT THE LOVE. She will be assisted by blinkers for the first time today as her attitude towards racing has not yet impressed. We hope she will show a little improvement on her fourth racecourse appearance. TOGA TIGER makes his debut for the yard at Lingfield after time off with an injury. I am still learning a bit about the horse and will be happy if he returns sound and well in the morning
  • she pulled up a little scratchy after the race and I will have a discussion with the owners with regard to her future.
  • she is well and home and we are hopeful that she will run well for her syndicate. However
  • as I would hope he can race through the winter. GONE TO GROUND goes to Wolverhampton and has also been fitted with blinkers
  • although I think he will be better at 3 I hope to see more than what he has showed us on the track so far. Last night BARBIERI failed to deliver what I know she can

A Ripper at Ripon - 1st September 2009

The trip to Ripon yesterday was made much shorter with the impressive win of MEDICEAN MAN. I love the way this horse goes about his business and you can rest assured there is more to come from him.

Luke Morris gave the horse a lovely ride after following the instructions to the letter and allowed the horse to produce his effort at the right time.

It has been a wonderful month for the yard with 7 winners. Taking into account we didn't have a runner for seven days prior to yesterday it has been a very satisfying period indeed. I am very pleased with the way the yard and the staff are going going about their work and we are building a terrific team to take us into the future.

Good teams take time to develop and i can tell you training racehorses is a team effort. Early mornings and unusual hours are par for the course in this game and it takes dedication to do the job well. Winners and good performances are a sign that the staff are doing the job well. Some may see the job of mucking out as a tedious boring job but this is far from the truth. I expect our staff to be attentive and "notice" changes and little alterations beyond the norm. From mucking out, riding, feeding and general care, all the various aspects of the job are just as important as the next.

Well done and thank you to all the staff.

I had a great day at Ripon yesterday and i have to say how welcoming both the public and racecourse were. I was approached by a young lady who i am ashamed to say who's name i didn't catch but gave me a great sense of pride in the yard. She and her Fiance follow the yard closely and her enthusiasm for the sport was impressive. It is very rewarding to know we can provide such pleasure to others, not in a monetary sense but by way of entertainment. We spoke prior to the win of Medicean Man and she assured me her and her friends were on him so i was thrilled he could repay his supporters. It was one of those days sends you home with a smile.

Looking ahead VAMOS and YANZA run at Lingfield tomorrow and i think both will run well. I would have perhaps preferred them to draw slightly wider but i am going with expectations of a result. VAMOS deserves a win and YANZA did have some problems after her win at Kempton but i am hopeful we are over them now. I would perhaps have liked her drawn out a bit as i don't think she loves being crowded but hopefully she can jump cleanly and hold a forward position.
