The Sutton Veny Syndicate had something to cheer about Saturday night as she returned to form (as i had tipped you) and ran a cracking 2nd. She will come on again from the run and they can look forward to more success soon.
I enjoy this filly as the involvement of locals adds to the satisfaction when she runs well.
Forget VAMOS went round at Wolvs yesterday. He got back off a very slow pace and couldn't get into the race at any stage so don't sack him yet.
I was up very early this morning to watch the Melbourne Cup coverage and what a day it was. I had added interest this morning with one of the favourites, ALCOPOP trained in my old home town and is worked on Goolwa beach. What a story it would have been if Jake Stephens had pulled of the win. Well done to all concerned on getting the horse there. Next year he will be bigger and stronger.
A former horse of mine, Ista Kareem ran in the race too. He is a lovely little horseand was good to me to me running third in the Adelaide Cup and winning the Port Cup. He is a renowned wet tracker and the weather didn't suit in Adelaide. He suffered from a rare condition called 'the thumps' which caused him discomfort in the heat. He was actually moved to Melbourne before i left to get onto some softer tracks and cooler weather.
Congratulations to the Mark Kavanagh team on another big win. The rise to prominance in Melbourne from Mt Gambier has been astounding and just shows what a bit of forward thinking can achieve.
A couple of the Europeans ran very well and nearly took the prize. It is an ambition of this yard to take one out on the coming years. What a buzz that would be.
