Definitely a rather mixed weekend! One Way Or Another was disappointing at Doncaster in the final race of the turf season however i am going to forgive him on ground i felt was far from ideal. Having walked the track prior to the event it was evident that the ground was very 'shifty' as opposed to soft. By this i mean the ground actually wasn't that soft but the divots were enormous and in many cases were nearly a foot long. This would not have suited horses who need to get good traction. Heavy ground can still provide relatively good traction if the ground isn't shifting but this ground would have led to some horses lacking confidence. Anyway i'll put that one behind us and we'll give him a look at the all-weather before deciding on a break.
On a brighter note the Rugby was a result. I was to go to it on Saturday but committed to Doncaster. I won't dwell on that for too long now.
What a Breeders Cup on the weekend. I have to say this is the best two days of racing in the world in my opinion. The poly track raced beautifully and the racing looked fair and exciting. I was thrilled for Tom Queally who rode very well at the meeting and has definitely arrived among the top jockeys riding at the moment.
The British horses performed very well over all but the performance to savour was that of ZENYATTA. What a mare she is. I defy anyone to watch that and not get goosebumps. It was such a pity we didn't get to see Sea The Stars take her on as that would have been something to get excited about.
Add to all of that the Aussie cricket form and it was nearly the perfect weekend!
Today SIMLA SUNSET tries to make ammends at Wolvs and i hope the tongue tie does the trick as she was bitterly disappointing last time. She seems well at home and i expect improvement.
