It's a pretty quiet week with the weekend off before we go again Monday. More about them later. CHIEF EXEC and YANZA both put in good efforts Wednesday night at Kempton. A drop back to 5f for Yanza looks the best option as she travelled very well again however her kick was slightly dulled by the long straight at Kempton. I think the same for Chief as he seems to have a really good 2f kick in him and the longer run in at Kempton caused him to be produced a bit early and he died on his run.
I think both of these will run very well in the right race next time.
Following my comments on Simla Sunset the other day i recieved an email suggesting to me that the use of a tongue tie is 'cruel' and i should not consider the use of them in the future.
To this i replied that if they were to witness the way a horse returns to the paddock after 'choking down' i am sure they would agree with the method. A tongue tie is used to prevent a horse from tucking the tongue back in their throught. When the bit is then withdrawn into the mouth the tongue can become jammed back or worse the tongue can flip over the bit rendering steering useless. The result either way is the horse tends to either hold their breath or the restriction causes loss of air.
I use a thick stocking to tie the tongue and in 14 years i have honestly only had ONE horse who didn't like it going on but he was happy once it was on. In fact he didn't like anything going on, jockey included.
So in summary i can assure you that it is not cruel to a horse in any way and in fact i believe it is cruel NOT to use one on a horse that needs it.
I am looking forward to the rugby on the weekend however i have some reserves as to whether Australia can pull it off in the league. I think we may see a serious England on Saturday. No doubt i will give a detailed summary on Monday....only if Australia wins.
