  • we hope to see some improvement with him. FINE FINALE is our final runner of the day
  • we have an early start at Lingfield this morning with YOU GOT THE LOVE. She will be assisted by blinkers for the first time today as her attitude towards racing has not yet impressed. We hope she will show a little improvement on her fourth racecourse appearance. TOGA TIGER makes his debut for the yard at Lingfield after time off with an injury. I am still learning a bit about the horse and will be happy if he returns sound and well in the morning
  • she pulled up a little scratchy after the race and I will have a discussion with the owners with regard to her future.
  • she is well and home and we are hopeful that she will run well for her syndicate. However
  • as I would hope he can race through the winter. GONE TO GROUND goes to Wolverhampton and has also been fitted with blinkers
  • although I think he will be better at 3 I hope to see more than what he has showed us on the track so far. Last night BARBIERI failed to deliver what I know she can

Hopes for an Encore! - 11th July 2009

What a thrill it was for all involved in STREET POWER yesterday at Ascot. After a delay due to the false start things didn't exactly go according to plan after what looked a sedate pace early forcing Steve Drowne to make his run a bit earlier than he would have liked. This horse just keeps taking a step up and will get his chance in a nice race in the future.

Well done to the new part-owners of 'The Power', Tanya Johnston is an old friend from Australia who is now based in the Middle East where she hopes to see her new horse in the future! What a buzz Godfrey Buckland and Karen Haylings got at the races yesterday. As their first venture into racehorse ownership, what a way to experience your first winner. I dare say there will be a few headaches this morning!

ONE WAY OR ANOTHER put in a terrific run under tough circumstances in the following race at Ascot. After getting into trouble mid-race he finished a solid second and though I don't think he would have necessarily beaten the winner, they would have made their runs together which would have been interesting.

I can honestly say the biggest thrill I get in racing is seeing the reaction of owners after winning a race. Many owners are surprised afterwards with the emotions evoked by a winner. I have always believed one MUST celebrate a winner as you just never know when the next one might be...

I liked the run of CARDENIO at Newbury last night and with a bit more experience under her belt she will step up in trip now.

Today I hope IVORY SILK can repeat the dose at Ascot in the 5:10. After a very good first-up performance at Salisbury she should enjoy track at Ascot and i expect her to go close. I wouldn't want much rain to change the going as I think she loves a solid footing.

CATALAN BAY runs at Salisbury in the 5:10 and on her work she would have a bit on these however I am slightly frustrated by her attitude on the racecourse. I have put the visor on today and we will try and hold her up for a late run. To be honest I am still slightly unsure about her preferred trip but we will have a look at her today and more than likely step her up in trip depending on what happens.

YVONNE EVELYN runs in the 8:10 and I expect her run a nice race after an encouraging run on a less than ideal track first time out.

To those that sent encouraging text messages on Thursday re the cricket, you must need to charge your phones as I failed to receive any yesterday??
