  • we hope to see some improvement with him. FINE FINALE is our final runner of the day
  • we have an early start at Lingfield this morning with YOU GOT THE LOVE. She will be assisted by blinkers for the first time today as her attitude towards racing has not yet impressed. We hope she will show a little improvement on her fourth racecourse appearance. TOGA TIGER makes his debut for the yard at Lingfield after time off with an injury. I am still learning a bit about the horse and will be happy if he returns sound and well in the morning
  • she pulled up a little scratchy after the race and I will have a discussion with the owners with regard to her future.
  • she is well and home and we are hopeful that she will run well for her syndicate. However
  • as I would hope he can race through the winter. GONE TO GROUND goes to Wolverhampton and has also been fitted with blinkers
  • although I think he will be better at 3 I hope to see more than what he has showed us on the track so far. Last night BARBIERI failed to deliver what I know she can

Coolmore visit a highlight the week - 6th February 2010

I had a treat yesterday with a visit to Coolmore Stud to see the stallions. No one does it better than them and the day was brilliant. The day gives potential clients the chance to be seduced by one of the 25 or so high class horses. If fact it is true that when entering the stable areas there at Coolmore we are entering the lairs of 20 or so of the best horses seen in recent times, quite inspiring actually.

It is also a big plus for me to see the stallions when looking for yearlings. It is a big advantage to have an idea of the stallion and whether or not traits are being inherited. This helps rest easy or strike one off if one feels it doesn't fit the mould. However there are clearly exceptions.

One of the highlights was to see Fastnet Rock over from Australia. I had a good mare run in his Lightening Stakes at Flemington and remember him as a brute of a sprinter. He is something to look at and has done a super job thus far in Australia and i can see him making his mark here also.

Another quiet week. EDITION pulled up a touch sore and sorry for himself after his debut at Lingfield, forgive him, he is a nice horse and will bounce back when he gains some more experience.

Tomorrow BERTIE BUCKLE endeavours to to enter the winners enclosure at Southwell however i feel this is a bit stronger than his last assignment and the step up to 7f will have to have to result in improvement which i think it can.
